Fees

All fees must be paid in advance, either in person, by mail, or online (if available).

Fees determined in accordance with the Government Code § 27472, County Code 6.48.050, and Board Resolution No. 99-0298. The following fees are as of October 1st 2012, by order of the Board of Supervisors. ​

Autopsy Report (Detailed autopsy examination report)

  • Case 2016 to present $27
  • Case 2015 and older $137

Autopsy & Pathology Support Services

Body Storage

  • 72 hours after notification to the next of kin, the remains are released for disposition  $15/day
  • Fees can be paid through the Online Payment Services​

Body Release

  • Regular business hours*  No charge

*Monday – Friday 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

*Weekends and Holidays 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Body Transport

Certified Death Certificate

A certified death certificate may be ordered through the funeral home selected by the family of the deceased or by contacting the appropriate office below.

Coroner's Report (Investigator's final report)​

  • First copy to next-of-kin: No charge
  • Case 2016 to present $27
  • Case 2015 and older $137

To order a Coroner’s Report, contact the Coroner's Office Monday through Friday between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at (916) 874-9320. Copies are available after the report has been completed.

Indigent Cremation​

Families may find themselves financially unable to cover costs related to the final disposition of their loved one. Sacramento County offers cremation for individuals with little or no income or resources. To qualify, both the decedent and the person legally responsible for the disposition of the remains must be indigent.

To apply for the indigent program, contact the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
